But I admit, there is a lot of duplication in duties between the Shield and the ATV. My own viewing is probably 30% streaming and 70% local media, so I actually use both the Shield and the Z9X in my setup.Ĭlick to expand.I agree with you, the Shield Pro does sound like a good option for you.especially if you just have to have a fully mature version of Plex right now. I've found the video management software that it does use, HT4, is really nice once you get your sources set up and your media scanned in. As far as Plex goes, a firmware version was recently released that supports Plex, but the Plex version is in beta so I wouldn't expect a polished experience. It has the same audio passthrough functionality as the Shield.so no problem playing atmos, but the picture quality and ability to easily tweak video profiles is hands down the best over the Shield.
There are many models, but the most comparable model to the Shield is the Z9X model. If most of your watching is local media (your own backed up blurays, DVDs, or 4K disks), a solution that I and many others have found is the Zidoo. They've had some updates recently that have frustrated a lot of folks and broken a few things, but if your usage is very basic, you should not be impacted much, if at all, by the updates.I haven't encountered any problems and i'm on the latest firmware. For those that watch both streaming and local media, i think this is probably the most popular solution. Generally, i think you'll probably find a lot of mentions for the NVidia Shield Pro coupled with Plex for the easiest solution to play back atmos tracks.
